The queen of large, meaty tomatoes for your sandwiches and salads!

The Beefsteak tomato is THE classic variety for lovers of large, juicy tomatoes. Grown at Semis de la Seigneurie, this tomato produces massive 300-500g fruits with dense, flavorful flesh. Perfect for thick slices in sandwiches, burgers, and salads, it's a sure bet that thrives in Quebec.

Why choose the Beefsteak tomato from Semis de la Seigneurie?

Seeds produced in Quebec – Adapted to zone 4b, without chemical pesticides

Large, fleshy fruits – 300-500g per tomato, perfect for slicing

Classic, balanced flavor – Sweet with just enough acidity

Generous production – Vigorous plants that produce all summer long

Reliable variety – Thrives in our Quebec climate

Culture in Quebec (zone 4b and above)

Beefsteak tomatoes can be grown in the ground or in large pots (minimum 20L). Start your seedlings indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost (early April for Gatineau/Outaouais). Transplant after all risk of frost has passed to a sunny, sheltered location. The plants will reach 120-180 cm in height and require sturdy staking to support the weight of the large fruit.

Producer's advice

💚 Sturdy staking essential – very heavy fruit

🍅 Prune the suckers to concentrate energy on the fruit

💧 Water regularly to prevent fruit from cracking

🌿 Mulch the soil to retain moisture and prevent disease

Culinary uses

The Beefsteak tomato is perfect in thick slices for sandwiches, burgers, and salads. It's also excellent in a Caprese salad, on pizzas, or simply with salt and pepper. Its dense flesh makes it an ideal tomato for recipes where you want beautiful, firm slices!
