The Nantes carrot is a heritage variety producing uniform, cylindrical roots 15-18 cm long. Grown at Semis de la Seigneurie, this classic French carrot offers an exceptionally mild and sweet flavor with a crisp texture. It has a small core, bright orange flesh, and a rounded tip. Excellent for heavy, clay soils. A reliable and productive variety.

Sow directly in the garden as soon as the soil is workable (late April-May) until mid-July for successive harvests. Loose, deep soil is recommended. Thin to 5 cm for uniform roots. An excellent autumn crop; flavor is improved after light frosts!

Nantes carrots are perfect raw in salads, juices, steamed, roasted, in soups, purées, and cakes. Exceptionally sweet and mild flavor. Ideal crisp texture!

Direct seeding:

  • Late April to mid-July (successive harvests)
  • Soil temperature: minimum 10°C
  • Germination: 10-21 days (slow)
  • Depth: 0.5 cm
  • Spacing: sow densely, thin to 5 cm
  • Rows: 30 cm between rows

Ground :

  • Furniture, deep (30 cm), without pebbles
  • Well-drained, pH 6.0-6.8
  • Avoid fresh manure (forked roots)
  • Tolerates clay soils better than other varieties
