Pumpkin ideal for Halloween and for carving. Bright orange skin is smooth and firm. Average weight: 4.5kg (10lbs). Fine-textured flesh: perfect for pumpkin pie! Beginning in late summer, remove any flower or new fruit that develops, to increase the growth of fruit that has already formed. Harvest when fully ripe. Cut the pumpkin, leaving part of the stem on the fruit to act as a handle.

Latin name : Cucurbita pepo

Sow a few seeds on a hill 9 to 12 inches high and 1 foot in diameter. Choose an area with full sun once all danger of frost has passed. Thin out up to 3 plants per hill about 2.5cm (1") high. When the vines are 10cm (3") high, thin out so that one plant, the strongest, remains on each hill. Use a heavy organic mulch to control weeds. After harvest, let stand in the garden for a few days until the skin hardens, then store in a cool, dry place.

Space between plants: 60 to 90cm (24 to 36")

Space between rows: 1.5 to 1.8m (5 to 6')

Beginning in late summer, remove flowers or new fruit to promote the growth of already formed fruit.
