Culture in Quebec (zone 4b and above)
Growing herbs is easy, but they don't all grow at the same pace. "Tender" herbs (basil, coriander, dill) grow quickly and are often sown in staggered batches , while more "Mediterranean" herbs (thyme, sage, rosemary) prefer warmth and well-drained soil. Start your seedlings indoors in spring, then transplant them after all risk of frost has passed (early June) . Growing them in pots is often the best option in zone 4b: more warmth, more control, and a harvest right next to the kitchen.
Producer's advice
💚 Harvest often – it stimulates regrowth (basil, mint, chives)
☀️ Full sun = maximum aroma (thyme, rosemary, sage)
💧 Water regularly, but avoid overwatering (especially in pots)
🌿 Staggered sowing (coriander/dill) for continuous harvest
🪴 Mint: to be kept in a pot (very vigorous, can invade the garden)
