Juin au jardin : ces conseils simples peuvent tout changer pour vos récoltes ! 🍅

June is one of the most exciting months in the vegetable garden: everything grows before your eyes, the first harvests arrive, but it is also a key period where good maintenance makes all the difference for the rest of the season.

Here are our practical tips for keeping your garden in top condition throughout June.

🌞 1. Manage watering properly

With the arrival of hot days, watering becomes crucial:

  • Water early in the morning or in the evening to limit evaporation.

  • Opt for abundant and deep watering (less frequent but more effective).

  • Pay particular attention to fruiting vegetables (tomatoes, squash, cucumbers), which have high water requirements.

  • Mulching is your ally in retaining soil moisture (see next section).

🌿 2. Limit weeds with mulch

Weeding is important in June, as weeds also take advantage of the heat and humidity.

  • A mulch of straw, dead leaves, dry grass clippings or wood chips helps to:

    • reduce weed growth;

    • maintain good humidity;

    • enrich the soil as it decomposes.

A well-mulched soil will require much less maintenance!

🍅 3. Stake and prune the plants

To optimize the growth and harvest of your vegetables:

  • Support tomatoes, peas, and climbing beans to keep them upright and facilitate harvesting.

  • For the tomatoes:

    • Remove suckers (side shoots) to encourage fruit production rather than foliage.

  • Also check the squash and melons, which may need a little support if the fruits become heavy.

🐛 4. Monitor for pests

June also marks the arrival of the first undesirables:

  • Be on the lookout for aphids , slugs , flea beetles or Colorado potato beetles on potatoes.

  • Favor natural solutions:

    • black soap against aphids;

    • nettle manure as a preventative measure;

    • manual collection (in the morning or evening) for slugs.

  • Encourage beneficial insects in the garden: ladybugs, hoverflies, birds.

🌼 5. Feed your plants

A growing garden needs nutrients:

  • Add some mature compost or an organic fertilizer rich in potassium and phosphorus (promotes flowering and fruiting).

  • Avoid excessive nitrogen inputs (too much foliage at the expense of fruit).

In summary: observe and nurture your garden

June is the perfect time to:
✅ Water at the right time
✅ Protect the soil with mulch
✅ Support and guide your plants
✅ Keep an eye out for unwanted insects
✅ Nourish the soil and plants

But above all, take the time to observe your garden : by knowing its rhythm well, you will know when to intervene to best support its growth.
